OUR SERVICES IN Correctional LAW (Prison law)

We represent inmates in various provincial prisons and penitenciaries of the province of Quebec. We are here to help our clients assert their rights by intervening with the prison authorities, the Parole Boards and before civil courts, if need be. Whether it is to prepare them before their incarceration, or to help them put together their release plan, we support our clients throughout the whole process.

+ Parole hearings

We represent clients before the Canadian and Quebec Parole Boards. This includes parole hearings, post-suspension hearings as well as temporary absences requests and/or preparatory liberations.

We can also represent clients for appeals and judicial review proceedings, if need be.

+ Conditions of detention

Incarceration constitutes a substantial deprivation of liberty, which put inmates in a situation of great vulnerability.

We assist and advise our clients about their rights in prison, including all aspects regarding their visitation rights, access to healthcare and detention conditions in general. We can also intervene to help them challenge their security classification and penitenciary placement.

+ Disciplinary hearings

We intervene for our clients before disciplinary tribunals and committes with regards to alleged breaches of discipline which could lead to sanctions or loss of priviledges.

+ illegal detention and transfers

Specific circumstances can lead to involuntary transfers of inmates from one place to another. Such decisions must always be taken in compliance with applicable legislation and regulations. In order to ensure that our client's rights are respected, we can advise them and represent them to challenge transfer decisisions or file habeas corpus applications on their behalf.
